Industry Stands Up for Paul Dano After Tarantino's Criticism

Post by : Meena Hassan

Quentin Tarantino has ignited controversy with his recent remarks about Paul Dano. Appearing on a well-known podcast, the Kill Bill director revisited the 2007 classic There Will Be Blood, stating that Dano’s performance detracted from the film's core dynamics. He described Dano’s acting as “weak sauce” and suggested that the interaction with Daniel Day-Lewis fell short, labeling him as “the weakest … actor in SAG.”

The backlash from the industry was swift. Matt Reeves, who directed Dano in The Batman (2022), responded by calling him “an incredible actor and an incredible person,” commending the depth he brought to his role alongside Robert Pattinson.

Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, currently involved with the Batman sequel, praised Dano's abilities both in front of and behind the camera, suggesting that his film Wildlife exemplifies his skill and sensitivity. Similarly, Ben Stiller took to Twitter to affirm that Dano is “f-ing brilliant,” while Alec Baldwin posted a clip lauding the actor.

This exchange has reignited conversations about There Will Be Blood, a film lauded for its portrayal by Day-Lewis and direction by Paul Thomas Anderson. However, this time, the narrative shifts to Dano’s involvement and the solidarity he has garnered from colleagues, reinforcing his esteemed position in Hollywood despite Tarantino’s observations.
