PM Modi Celebrates 12 Years in Power, Showcases India's Development

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has marked a significant milestone, completing 12 years in his role as the head of the Indian government. He referred to this journey as one characterized by trust, development, and a commitment to public welfare. In his celebration, PM Modi expounded on several accomplishments achieved during his tenure, particularly in areas like welfare schemes, infrastructure expansion, healthcare reforms, women’s empowerment, and national security.

Taking office in May 2014, Modi secured his position for a third consecutive term on June 9, 2024, following the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)'s success in the recent Lok Sabha elections. With this stretch as Prime Minister, he now holds the record for the longest continuous service in India's history.

In a message shared via the social media platform X, PM Modi reiterated that his administration's efforts have been focused on a "Nation First" principle, emphasizing empowerment for the youth, women, and farmers, while bolstering India’s global standing.

"Throughout the past 12 years, we have dedicated ourselves to building trust, fostering development, and ensuring public welfare. With the support of 1.4 billion Indians and the ethos of Nation First, we have pursued every avenue for the empowerment of our youth, women, and farmers," he stated.

Welfare and Women Empowerment Initiatives

During his speech, PM Modi pointed out several initiatives designed to enhance the lives of economically disadvantaged individuals. Over 81 crore citizens benefit from the government’s food security initiative that ensures free monthly distribution of food grains.

More than four crore homes have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while over 10.5 crore LPG connections have been provided via the Ujjwala Yojana, along with the construction of over 12 crore toilets nationwide.

On the subject of women’s empowerment, PM Modi noted that over 32 crore women now have access to banking facilities through Jan Dhan accounts. He also mentioned the induction of women into the armed forces via permanent commissions and the success of the Lakhpati Didi scheme, which connects over 10 crore rural women to around 91 lakh self-help groups.

Infrastructure Advancements

Reflecting on the infrastructure developments of the last decade, PM Modi highlighted that India now boasts a metro network exceeding 1,100 kilometers across 26 cities. Moreover, the introduction of 164 Vande Bharat trains aims to enhance the nation's rail connectivity.

Major completed projects include the Atal Setu, Sudarshan Setu, and the Chenab Rail Bridge, with the number of operational airports increasing from 74 in 2014 to 164—with official data backing these claims.

Empowering the Youth

Emphasizing opportunities for the younger generation, PM Modi shared that over two crore youths have undertaken skill development training. The government has additionally allocated Mudra loans amounting to Rs 40 lakh crore to bolster entrepreneurship and support small businesses.

India's startup sphere has also flourished, with recognized startups surpassing 2.2 lakh, establishing the nation as a key player in the global startup ecosystem.

Enhancements in Healthcare

The Prime Minister underscored the advancements in health services, noting that citizens aged 70 years and above can benefit from free healthcare coverage up to Rs 5 lakh through government schemes.

The Ayushman Bharat initiative now extends healthcare services to approximately 80 crore individuals, complemented by over 19,000 Jan Aushadhi centers across the nation supplying affordable medications.

Support for the Agricultural Sector

PM Modi confirmed that the government prioritizes farmers. Under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi program, a total of Rs 4.3 lakh crore has been directly transferred to farmers.

Further measures include crop insurance payments amounting to Rs 2 lakh crore, agricultural produce procurement worth Rs 26 lakh crore at Minimum Support Price (MSP), and the issuance of Kisan Credit Cards to nearly 8 crore farmers.

National Security and Heritage Initiatives

On the subject of national security, PM Modi highlighted record defense exports totaling Rs 38,400 crore, in addition to efforts to confront terrorism and Naxalism. He referenced initiatives such as the renaming of Rajpath to Kartavyapath and a new naval ensign inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The government has also progressed in promoting India's cultural and religious heritage, including the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and redevelopment at sites like Kashi Vishwanath, Mahakal Mahalok, and Kedarnath Dham.

Through these measures, PM Modi affirmed his government's unwavering commitment to realizing the vision of a "Viksit Bharat" via dedicated public service, effective governance, economic growth, and inclusive development.
