Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev met with Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) of the United Arab Emirates, in Baku on Thursday. The meeting took place during Ghobash’s official visit to Azerbaijan to attend the International Parliamentary Conference marking the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Constitution. The discussions reflected the growing partnership and mutual respect between the two countries.
President Aliyev warmly welcomed Ghobash and his delegation, praising the UAE’s participation in the conference and highlighting the strong and steadily growing ties between both nations. He emphasized that UAE-Azerbaijan relations represent a model of constructive cooperation based on shared trust, mutual interests, and common goals. Aliyev reaffirmed his country’s commitment to further strengthen collaboration in political, economic, scientific, and cultural fields.
During the meeting, Ghobash conveyed warm greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He also extended their wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Azerbaijan and its people. In return, President Aliyev conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the UAE’s leadership, expressing his admiration for the UAE’s development and its important role in regional and international affairs.
Saqr Ghobash praised President Aliyev’s leadership and his efforts in advancing Azerbaijan’s sustainable development and stability. He noted that under Aliyev’s vision, Azerbaijan has become a regional model for tolerance, openness, and growth. Ghobash added that the UAE deeply values its friendship with Azerbaijan and regards it as a strategic partner in the region, especially in fields such as energy, trade, and investment.
Ghobash highlighted the significance of the official visit made by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Azerbaijan in September 2025. During that visit, both nations announced a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new era of cooperation. He described this partnership as a major step that opens new horizons for collaboration in diverse sectors, including economy, science, culture, and sustainable energy.
The meeting underlined the importance of close cooperation between the UAE Federal National Council and Azerbaijan’s National Assembly. Ghobash emphasized that parliamentary relations play a vital role in supporting the vision of both leaderships. These relations, he said, help to advance understanding, exchange of expertise, and coordinated efforts on regional and international issues. President Aliyev expressed his support for stronger parliamentary dialogue and appreciated the FNC’s active participation in inter-parliamentary forums.
Both sides reviewed the progress of joint projects and discussed new opportunities for economic collaboration. They agreed on the need to continue enhancing investment relations, especially in infrastructure, technology, and green energy. Aliyev praised the UAE’s role as a leading investor in Azerbaijan, while Ghobash reiterated the UAE’s readiness to expand partnerships that contribute to both nations’ sustainable growth.
The leaders also discussed energy cooperation, with a focus on the transition to clean and renewable energy. The UAE reaffirmed its support for Azerbaijan’s efforts in green development and sustainable energy production. Both sides agreed that their joint projects in these areas align with their shared vision for a more sustainable future and contribute to global efforts to combat climate change.
During the discussions, both parties stressed the importance of continued coordination in international forums to promote peace, security, and sustainable development. They reaffirmed their commitment to joint action within organizations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations. The two sides highlighted that UAE-Azerbaijan relations go beyond bilateral ties, serving as a model of regional and global partnership for stability and progress.
The meeting was attended by Mohammed Murad Alblooshi, the UAE’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, along with several senior officials from both sides. The discussions concluded on a positive note, with both delegations expressing confidence that the growing cooperation between the UAE and Azerbaijan will continue to flourish in the years ahead.
