Saudi Crown Prince Meets FIFA President in Riyadh

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, met with Gianni Infantino, President of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), in Riyadh on Tuesday. The meeting reflected the Kingdom’s growing role in international sports and its commitment to advancing football development both locally and globally.

During their discussions, the Crown Prince and the FIFA President explored new opportunities for cooperation between Saudi Arabia and FIFA. They reviewed the current status of joint initiatives in sports development and examined ways to further enhance collaboration in areas such as football infrastructure, talent development, and global tournaments.

The talks underscored the shared ambition of both parties to strengthen football as a unifying global sport that inspires young people and promotes cultural understanding. The meeting also focused on Saudi Arabia’s continuing efforts to elevate sports participation across all levels, aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which highlights sports as a key driver of national development and global engagement.

Under the leadership of the Crown Prince, Saudi Arabia has rapidly emerged as a regional hub for international sporting events. The Kingdom has successfully hosted major football tournaments, including the Spanish and Italian Super Cups, as well as world-class events in motorsport, boxing, and golf. These efforts demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in global sports diplomacy and its commitment to fostering international partnerships through sport.

Gianni Infantino commended the Kingdom’s remarkable progress in sports infrastructure and investment, noting its contribution to the global football community. He praised Saudi Arabia’s initiatives to promote youth engagement, women’s participation in sports, and grassroots football development. Infantino also reaffirmed FIFA’s readiness to cooperate with Saudi Arabia in advancing the sport through joint projects and developmental programs.

The meeting highlighted the role of sports in achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the national economy and enhance quality of life. Football, being one of the most popular sports in the Kingdom, has become a symbol of unity and ambition, encouraging community participation and inspiring young Saudis to pursue athletic excellence.

Saudi Arabia’s collaboration with FIFA is part of a broader effort to integrate the Kingdom into the global sports ecosystem. Through partnerships with international sports federations, Saudi Arabia continues to invest in world-class facilities, attract top-tier competitions, and develop homegrown talent capable of performing on the global stage.

The meeting between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and FIFA President Gianni Infantino marks another step in strengthening Saudi Arabia’s presence in international football. As the Kingdom continues to expand its influence and contribution to global sports, its partnership with FIFA is expected to open new avenues for cooperation, development, and shared success.

Saudi Arabia’s vision for the future of sports emphasizes innovation, inclusivity, and global collaboration, aligning perfectly with FIFA’s mission to make football truly accessible to all. The discussions in Riyadh reaffirm the Kingdom’s dedication to promoting football not only as a sport but also as a bridge between nations and cultures.
