In a horrifying case from Pune, a man reportedly took the life of his wife, taking cues from the film Drishyam. The suspect, 42-year-old Sameer Punjabrao Jadhav, is accused of strangling his 38-year-old wife Anjali on October 26 in a rented warehouse. Afterward, he burned her body in an iron furnace and scattered the remains in a nearby river.
Since their marriage in 2017, the couple had two children who were visiting their hometown during the Diwali festivities, allowing Jadhav to commit the crime without interruption.
Authorities disclosed that Jadhav tried to shift suspicion by lodging a missing-person report and sending texts from his wife's phone to simulate her continued existence. Nevertheless, discrepancies in his narrative and digital evidence—including CCTV records, mobile service data, and forensic results—quickly led investigators to identify him as the main suspect.
The police revealed Jadhav had meticulously planned the murder days in advance by renting the warehouse and preparing the furnace while ensuring his children were away. Although marital issues and infidelity reportedly spurred the crime, evidence hints that the accused was engaged in an extramarital relationship.
During questioning, Jadhav confessed to taking inspiration from the plot of Drishyam, which outlines a cunning approach to concealing a crime.
The case has now been transferred to the Rajgad Police, who have filed charges of murder and evidence tampering in accordance with the Indian Penal Code. Partial human remains collected from the furnace site are undergoing DNA analysis.
Residents in Pune's Shivane locality expressed disbelief over the incident, describing Jadhav as composed and seemingly caring towards his wife. This incident serves as a disturbing reminder of how normal appearances can mask dark realities.
Investigators are still working to piece together the timeline of this shocking case, which underscores themes of premeditation and trickery in contemporary crime.
