Qatar-Canada Meet to Boost Cooperation in AI and Technology

HE Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, met on Wednesday with HE Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, Evan Solomon. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in Communications, Information Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation.

Strong Qatar-Canada Relations

During the discussions, both Ministers reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Qatar and Canada, which have spanned over fifty years. They highlighted the long-standing partnership and expressed their commitment to expanding collaboration in emerging technologies.

Opportunities in Digital and AI Fields

The Ministers discussed potential cooperation in high-performance computing (HPC), the exchange of expertise in digital infrastructure, and the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Emphasis was placed on developing national talent, sharing knowledge, and supporting innovation in these critical sectors.

Collaboration on Policy and Entrepreneurship

Both sides also explored opportunities to collaborate on digital policy development and to support technology entrepreneurship. Capacity building in digital innovation was highlighted as a key priority, ensuring that both nations can benefit from the growth of the tech sector.

Future Framework through MoU

The Ministers agreed to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a formal framework for future cooperation. This MoU will strengthen the digital partnership between Qatar and Canada, paving the way for joint initiatives, knowledge exchange, and advanced collaboration in technology and innovation.

The meeting reflected the commitment of both countries to advance shared goals in digital development and technological progress. By working together, Qatar and Canada aim to leverage expertise, promote innovation, and enhance national capabilities in AI, digital infrastructure, and high-tech industries.
