Qatar marked the launch of the 15th edition of National Sports Day on Tuesday under the slogan “I Chose Sport.” The day was celebrated with sports and fitness activities across the country, highlighting the importance of physical activity for health, social unity, and a better quality of life. The event reflects Qatar’s strong belief in sport as an essential part of daily living.
This year saw wide participation from government bodies, private organisations, and community groups. A variety of sports and recreational activities were organised in public parks, open areas, and sports facilities, making it easy for people of all ages to take part. Events were spread across different locations to ensure inclusive participation for citizens and residents alike.
From early morning, popular areas such as Doha Corniche, Aspire Zone, The Pearl, Lusail, Msheireb, Katara, and Qatar Foundation turned into lively outdoor sports venues. These locations were filled with people exercising, playing games, and enjoying a festive atmosphere focused on healthy lifestyle and community interaction.
Families and children made up a large part of the turnout, arriving early to join sports activities and entertainment programmes. The celebrations showed a strong sense of unity and togetherness, which has become a key feature of the event over the years.
The wide range of activities transformed Doha into a large open sports arena for the day. The event once again showed how sport can bring people together and support both physical and mental well-being. It also highlighted the role of sport in building stronger social connections.
Since its launch, National Sports Day has received strong support from state institutions, with tens of thousands of people participating every year. The growing interest reflects the success of the initiative in encouraging physical activity and active living across society.
National Sports Day has become a highly anticipated annual event, combining sport, recreation, and social engagement. It offers families and individuals a chance to enjoy a day dedicated to movement and wellness, helping build a nationwide culture of fitness.
The event also supports the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, especially in human development. Over the years, participation in sports has increased, showing greater awareness of the benefits of regular exercise.
First celebrated in 2012 after an Amiri decision, National Sports Day is held every year on the second Tuesday of February. Today, Qatar is recognised as a regional and global leader in promoting sport as a key pillar of sustainable development, benefiting individuals and society as a whole.
