Tragic Bus Blaze in Rajasthan Claims 21 Lives, Four in Critical Condition

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A catastrophic fire erupted on an AC sleeper bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur at around 3:30 PM on Tuesday, resulting in the loss of 21 lives and leaving four others in critical condition. What began as a normal journey turned into a devastating incident as the flames engulfed the vehicle.

Casualties and Medical Reports

Nineteen passengers tragically lost their lives instantly, and one later succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Jodhpur. Notably, a 10-year-old boy, Yunus, who suffered severe burns, passed away during treatment. Four victims remain on ventilators, fighting for their lives as they receive critical care.

Ongoing Identification Efforts

Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased individuals. DNA samples are being gathered from relatives at hospitals in both Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Families expressed concerns about delays in the collection, but hospital officials emphasized that thorough verification is essential to prevent identification errors. The process is expected to wrap up within the next 24 hours.

Verification Challenges

Due to the extreme severity of the injuries, DNA testing is necessary for accurate identification. Officials stressed the importance of proper verification to avoid any mistakes. They are making efforts to ensure the process is completed rapidly while adhering to safety and accuracy standards.

Family and Community Impacts

This tragic event has left affected families distraught, with many waiting anxiously for updates on their loved ones. The incident has deeply impacted local communities within Rajasthan, underscoring the critical need for improved safety protocols in public transportation, especially on long-distance sleeper buses.

Government Response
Emergency services, police, and medical teams responded promptly, handling rescue operations and providing necessary care. Authorities have committed to ensuring that all required support, including medical treatment and psychological counseling, is available to survivors and affected families.

Call for Improved Safety Standards
This incident highlights the dangers of public transportation, particularly during long journeys. It is essential to enhance safety protocols, equip buses with fire safety measures, and improve emergency readiness to prevent future tragedies. Government agencies are expected to reassess regulations and implement stricter safety standards in light of this catastrophic event.
