Video of Red Fort Bomber Claims Suicide Attacks Are 'Misunderstood'

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A disconcerting video has emerged featuring Dr. Umar un Nabi, the suspected driver implicated in the Red Fort explosion that resulted in over 10 fatalities. This footage, thought to be recorded prior to November 10, reveals disturbing insights into his extremist ideologies as he calmly labels suicide bombings as a "misunderstood" notion, frequently referring to them as "martyrdom operations."

In isolation, Nabi articulates justifications for such acts. He emphasizes that the term suicide bombing is incorrectly defined, asserting it should be recognized as a "martyrdom operation."

Nabi is seen stating, "A widely misconstrued concept is what has been tagged as suicide bombing. It is, in reality, a martyrdom operation. Various arguments and contradictions have been raised against it. A martyrdom operation occurs when an individual anticipates dying at a specific location and time, proceeding with the belief that death is inevitable."

The video’s resurfacing has gained critical importance as investigations intensify into this shocking incident.

NIA Confirms Suicide Angle

The clip surfaced shortly after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) detained another alleged associate, Jasir Bilal Wani, reportedly radicalized by Nabi. The NIA claims both were orchestrating coordinated suicide missions in India for an extended period.

Notably, the NIA officially termed Nabi a "suicide bomber" for the first time when announcing the recent arrest, also designating the vehicle—a Hyundai i20—as a "vehicle-borne IED," clarifying that the explosion was a deliberate act.

Incident Details from November 10

On November 10 at 6:52 pm, an explosion erupted near the Red Fort after the slow-moving Hyundai i20 unexpectedly ignited at a traffic signal. This vehicle, which had multiple owners and was equipped with a CNG tank, detonated with significant force, resulting in 11 casualties.

Forensic examinations have confirmed that Umar un Nabi was driving during the explosion, bolstering the suspicion that this incident was part of a planned suicide operation.

Broad Terror Investigation Underway

The Delhi Police Special Cell is conducting a distinct investigation to uncover the larger network behind the attack. Key inquiries currently in progress include:

  • The origins of the explosives and links to terror organizations

  • Whether additional vehicles were being prepared for similar plots

  • Possible inspirations for the plot derived from the 2019 Pulwama suicide attack

Sources suggest that this module might have received guidance from external handlers.

Video Raises Significant Concerns

Investigators assert that the newly surfaced video serves as a vital piece of evidence, granting insight into Umar un Nabi's radical mindset while suggesting premeditated intent behind the attack.

It appears that the video could have been created as either a personal manifesto or as part of a broader propaganda initiative aimed at recruitment and ideological justification.

Next Steps in the Investigation

Authorities are delving into digital devices, communication methods, and social media activities linked to the accused, seeking to delineate the full scope of the conspiracy. The likelihood of further arrests appears imminent as the investigation unfolds.

The emergence of this video has heightened alarm over a potential resurgence in suicide-terror operations, signaling an urgent need for enhanced vigilance and robust counterterrorism strategies.
