On Monday, a three-time NBA champion declared his intention to vie for a position in the House of Assembly in the Bahamas' forthcoming elections, required to occur by October. The former player revealed his vision on social media, ensuring a commitment to transparency, honesty, and the pursuit of excellence in governance.
Originally from Canada, he has a Bahamian father and a Canadian mother. Fox enjoyed a celebrated 14-season NBA career as a forward, primarily recognized for his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. His accolades include three NBA championships with the Lakers during the years 2000 to 2002 before his retirement in 2004.
In the Bahamas, which operates under a parliamentary framework, he will seek to represent one of the 39 constituencies. However, the specific area of his candidacy has not been disclosed yet. The election date will be determined by Prime Minister Philip Davis, with the upcoming vote mandated to take place within five years of the previous one held in 2021.
Additionally, earlier this month, he announced the formation of the Good Neighbors Party, which aims to reinforce regional integration within the Caribbean. His political focus highlights unity and growth in the region.
Beyond basketball, Fox has also carved out a successful acting career, featuring in popular series and films such as "Ugly Betty," "Greenleaf," and "One Tree Hill." While primarily residing in Los Angeles, he owns property in the Bahamas and was named the country’s ambassador at large for sports in 2022.
Through this political endeavor, the former NBA player intends to ignite change and offer a fresh perspective for the Bahamas, championing security, empowerment, and national pride for all Bahamians.
