Producer Rishi Negi addresses Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 19 hosting and fee reports

Post by : Meena Hassan

Salman Khan has long been the face of Bigg Boss, turning the show's weekend instalments into must-watch TV. Yet each season reignites debate over his on-air approach, alleged partiality and the recurring reports about his remuneration.

Bigg Boss 19 producer Rishi Negi, representing Banijay Asia and EndemolShine India, has now addressed how Salman prepares for the show and spoken about the persistent rumours surrounding his pay.

Salman Khan’s preparation for Weekend Ka Vaar

Negi said Salman does engage with the week's material before appearing on Weekend Ka Vaar, reviewing selected footage to get up to speed with developments in the house.

"He may not watch every episode in full, but he goes through key clips with us," Negi explained. "We cover the main incidents from the week and he also hears what regular viewers close to him have observed."

Negi described Weekend Ka Vaar as a collaborative edit

According to Negi, the weekend shows are shaped through input from the host, the creative team and audience reactions, which together determine the focus and tone of the segments.

'No one can make Salman say what he doesn’t believe in'

Questions persist that Salman merely repeats lines given by producers. Negi rejected that idea, stressing the host brings his own judgement to discussions on stage.

"He forms his own views on what is right or wrong," Negi said. "We deliberate and then present it live. You cannot force him to express something he doesn't agree with."

That independence, Negi suggested, explains the strong reactions Salman often provokes—his responses are guided by conviction rather than a fixed script.

The truth behind Salman Khan’s massive Bigg Boss fee

Each season sees fresh speculation about the fee Salman commands, with reports for Bigg Boss 19 suggesting figures in the hundreds of crores.

When pressed on those figures, Negi maintained he could not discuss contractual details and declined to confirm any specific amount.

"The agreement is between him and JioCinema, so I don't have access to it," he said. "Whatever the number being circulated, he brings value to the show. From my perspective, his presence on the weekend is what matters."

Negi's measured reply underlined the producer's view that Salman remains central to the programme's success.

An emotional connection beyond the screen

Salman has periodically hinted at stepping away, yet keeps returning. Negi said the host has developed a genuine emotional investment in the show and the contestants over time.

"You can see his emotional involvement on stage—the concern, the reactions and the level of engagement are real," Negi noted.

That empathy, Negi argued, adds a humane dimension to a format driven by conflict and spectacle.

A hosting legacy unmatched

Since he became the regular presenter, Salman has left a distinct mark on reality television in India. His blend of humour, firmness and candour has divided opinion but also kept Bigg Boss in the public eye for years.

As Bigg Boss 19 continues to trend, Negi's comments aim to clarify misconceptions and underline why Salman remains the programme's principal draw despite the controversies and rumours that follow each season.
