U.S. Secretary Rubio Connects with Bulgarian Prime Minister

Post by : Shweta

On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in a phone conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Andrey Gurov, where he expressed gratitude for Bulgaria’s unwavering support and collaboration with the U.S. on significant security issues.

During their dialogue, Secretary Rubio acknowledged Bulgaria’s vital partnership, particularly in aiding the evacuation of American citizens and diplomatic staff from the Middle East amid escalating regional tensions. This assistance is viewed as crucial for ensuring the safety of U.S. nationals.

The two leaders also touched upon the defense and security alliance between the U.S. and Bulgaria. Secretary Rubio commended Bulgaria for its commitment to enhancing defense budgets and military capabilities, notably through the acquisition of U.S. defense supplies. These actions are considered part of a larger strategy to bolster regional security and fortify alliances across Europe.

Another significant aspect discussed was energy collaboration. Rubio appreciated Bulgaria's backing of the Vertical Gas Corridor initiative, expected to enhance Europe’s energy security by offering alternative gas supply routes. This project is also set to open new avenues for U.S. liquefied natural gas exports, promoting energy diversification.

Both leaders reiterated the necessity of ongoing collaboration in security, defense, and energy sectors. This call highlighted the strong and evolving relationship between the United States and Bulgaria as they collectively tackle regional challenges and foster stability.
