In a pivotal diplomatic meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. Their dialogue strengthened the commitment to India-US relations and emphasized a shared dedication to regional stability. Conducted on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit, the meeting showcased both nations' resilience in expanding cooperation amidst global challenges.
Jaishankar characterized the discussions as “constructive and forward-looking,” particularly noting that the India-US relationship is critical for fostering peace, prosperity, and a free, open Indo-Pacific. They also addressed the ongoing India-US trade negotiations, which are reportedly nearing a resolution after five constructive rounds.
This meeting arrives at a key moment as both countries seek to deepen their collaboration on various fronts, including defense, trade, technology, and climate change. The dialogue reaffirms the shared values between the two nations and their aim of bolstering ties through strategic collaboration and mutual trust.
Jaishankar expressed his enthusiasm via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Glad to meet @SecRubio this morning in Kuala Lumpur. Appreciated the discussion on our bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues.” His message reflects India’s growing diplomatic influence and the critical role of the India-US partnership in regional security matters.
