SAP Launches EU AI Cloud to Boost Safe and Local AI Use in Europe

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

SAP is moving forward with a new plan called EU AI Cloud, which brings all its earlier sovereignty efforts under one clear and simple system. The main goal of this setup is to give organisations in Europe more choice, stronger control, and higher confidence when using AI and cloud services. The company wants to make sure that businesses do not have to worry about data leaving Europe or breaking any EU rules.

With EU AI Cloud, SAP is offering different ways for organisations to run their systems. Some may want to use SAP’s own data centres. Others may prefer trusted European cloud providers. There are also companies that need all their data and systems to stay on-site, inside their own buildings. SAP has designed EU AI Cloud to support all these needs while keeping every operation inside the region and aligned with EU data protection laws.

To support Europe’s growing demand for advanced but safe AI, SAP is working with Cohere to introduce new agent-style and multimodal AI tools. These tools will be available through Cohere North and can be used on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). This is important for industries that must keep their information inside Europe because of strict data residency rules.

SAP and Cohere say the aim of this partnership is to help businesses find deeper insights, strengthen decision-making, and automate complex work. All of this can be done without losing control of security or performance. As Cohere explained, their goal is to make sure advanced AI remains available to organisations that cannot move their data outside Europe. In this context, bold keywords like EU sovereignty, data protection, AI compliance, cloud security, and SAP BTP are becoming more important for business leaders.

SAP is not developing EU AI Cloud alone. It is building this system with support from several European and global partners. AI models and tools from companies like Cohere, Mistral AI, OpenAI, and others are connected directly to SAP BTP. This gives customers a simpler way to build, use, and scale AI applications.

Organisations can access these partner tools as SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS. They can choose to run them on SAP infrastructure or through approved European cloud partners. This flexibility is meant to give both private companies and government bodies modern AI tools that still follow Europe’s strict safety, privacy, and sovereignty standards.

EU AI Cloud operates through SAP Sovereign Cloud, a system that allows organisations to choose how much control they want across the entire technology stack. AI models are run on SAP’s cloud infrastructure located in European data centres. This helps keep operations separate from large US cloud providers and ensures better compliance with EU rules.

SAP offers several deployment choices:

This option uses SAP’s own IaaS, built on open-source technologies. All data stays inside the EU, supporting organisations that must follow regional privacy laws.

In this model, SAP manages the infrastructure, but it is placed inside a location chosen by the customer. This gives the highest level of control over data and operations.

Some customers may still use global cloud providers for certain services. For them, SAP offers add-on sovereignty features depending on local requirements.

A special cloud option in Germany built for the public sector. It follows strict local rules and helps government offices modernise safely.

EU AI Cloud gives European organisations more choice, more control, and more confidence when using AI. With multiple deployment options, strong data protection, and deep partnerships, SAP is offering a way for companies and public bodies to use modern AI without losing the safeguards they depend on.
