Saudi Arabia’s Noor Astronomy Observatory in the Qassim region has captured a new image of the Rosette Nebula, offering a detailed view of a vast cloud of gas and dust illuminated by young stars. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the observation highlights the beauty of this distant celestial object and supports efforts to make astronomy more accessible to the public.
The newly captured image displays the Rosette Nebula in shades of pink, purple and blue surrounding the open star cluster NGC 2244. Located thousands of light-years from Earth, the nebula is a large region associated with star formation. The radiation and stellar winds produced by the cluster’s newly formed stars shape the surrounding gas and dust, creating a complex cosmic environment.

Issa Al-Ghafili, head of Noor Astronomy, said astronomical observations help increase public knowledge and encourage people to explore celestial phenomena. He explained that astrophotography can reveal details that cannot be seen with the naked eye, making complex astronomical concepts easier to understand while encouraging scientific curiosity and improving public awareness of science.
Based in Qassim, Noor Astronomy is a non-profit association founded in 2019. Its work includes promoting astronomy and space science, supporting scientific research, advancing astrophotography and organizing public stargazing activities. The association’s activities also align with broader efforts under Saudi Vision 2030 to encourage knowledge, scientific interest and public engagement.
Over the past year, Noor Astronomy has regularly shared information about major astronomical events visible from Saudi Arabia. Earlier in October, it offered viewing guidance for the annual Orionid meteor shower, which occurs as Earth passes through debris left by Halley’s Comet. The association encouraged observers to choose dark locations away from artificial lighting for a better view.
The association also monitored a rare daytime occultation of Venus by the Moon across parts of Saudi Arabia and the wider Arab region in September. In August, it highlighted favorable conditions for viewing the annual Perseid meteor shower. Other topics covered by the organization include the conjunction of Venus and Regulus, Earth’s annual aphelion, Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon and large sunspots associated with moderate solar activity.
Noor Astronomy’s latest Rosette Nebula image reflects its ongoing efforts to document deep-sky objects through astrophotography and bring space science closer to the public. By sharing observations and practical viewing guidance, the association helps astronomy enthusiasts across Saudi Arabia learn more about the universe and develop a greater interest in scientific discovery.
