US President Donald Trump criticised Norway during a Republican campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, October 25, 2026. According to Reuters, Trump made the remarks ahead of the upcoming US midterm elections and linked his criticism of Norway to his failure to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaking about immigration, Trump said he would welcome people from some countries but did not want immigrants from Norway because he had not received the Nobel Peace Prize. His comments connected the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is based in Oslo, with his dissatisfaction over the award decision.

During the rally, Trump used an insulting expression to describe Norway, saying it had become a “shit house country.” Reuters reported that he had previously used the same term when referring to Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. The remarks added to his recent criticism of Norway over the Nobel Peace Prize.
Despite Trump's comments, the report said there was no indication that his administration was introducing a new official immigration policy specifically targeting Norwegian nationals. His remarks were made during a political rally and should not be interpreted as confirmation of a change to US immigration rules.
Earlier in October, Trump described the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize as an “indelible stain” on Norway. His latest comments again connected his disappointment over the award with criticism of the country. The Norwegian Nobel Committee is responsible for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize, while the Nobel institutions have distinct roles in administering other Nobel awards.
Norway remains one of the world's high-income countries by gross domestic product per capita, according to International Monetary Fund data cited in the report. Reuters also reported that Norway’s sovereign wealth fund recorded a profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian crowns, equivalent to approximately $184.3 billion, in the first half of 2026.
At the time of the Reuters report, Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a representative for the Norwegian Nobel Committee had not immediately responded to requests for comment made outside regular office hours. The report did not provide any subsequent official response or indicate that Norway had announced measures following Trump's remarks.
