Washington, D.C. — Sergio Gor has been inaugurated as the new United States Ambassador to India, with a ceremonial oath delivered by Vice President J.D. Vance at the Oval Office this past Monday. At the age of 38, Gor becomes the youngest representative from Washington to New Delhi in recent memory, with the responsibility of bolstering one of the nation’s key international alliances.
Sharing his excitement on social media, Gor expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump, stating, “I am thrilled to take on the role of the new U.S. Ambassador to India. Thank you @POTUS @realDonaldTrump! I’m truly thankful for this trust you’ve put in me.”
Vinay Mohan Kwatra, India’s Ambassador in the United States, extended his congratulations, saying, “Heartfelt congratulations @SergioGor on your swearing-in as the U.S. Ambassador to India. I wish you all the best as you prepare for your new role in New Delhi.”
Gor’s nomination by President Trump in August received the Senate’s confirmation in October. Before assuming this role, he held the position of Director of Presidential Personnel and was named Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
During the swearing-in ceremony, President Trump emphasized the strategic importance of the US-India relationship. “I trust Sergio to further reinforce one of our critical international partnerships, the strategic collaboration with India. India boasts one of the oldest civilizations and is home to over 1.5 billion people,” Trump remarked, calling Gor an “exceptional” US representative.
In his confirmation hearing, Gor highlighted India’s position as a vital strategic ally influencing both regional and global stability. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing US interests in trade, security, and diplomacy, noting that stronger US-India trade relations would boost American competitiveness and diminish China’s economic power in the region.
The appointment of Sergio Gor marks a renewed commitment to enhancing diplomatic, economic, and strategic ties between the United States and India, showcasing the growing significance of this bilateral relationship in global geopolitics.
