On Thursday morning, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, ceremonially laid the foundation stone for the substantial Abu Al Kizan Marine Village in Khorfakkan.
Part of an ambitious strategy aimed at enhancing tourism, urban development, and the quality of life in the emirate, this expansive project will cover 7 million square feet, aiming to become a cornerstone for tourism and investment in Khorfakkan.
The design of Abu Al Kizan Marine Village is inspired by renowned Italian coastal villages, merging traditional Ligurian architectural styles with Islamic design elements, thus creating a distinct waterfront experience. Its layout features vibrant terraced buildings around a naturally occurring harbour, showcasing stunning sea views amidst picturesque surroundings.
During the ceremony, the Ruler assessed the detailed masterplan and the array of facilities envisioned for the site. The development will incorporate green areas, a beach, a central boulevard, roads, walkways, and a range of public services aimed at enriching the experiences of residents and visitors alike.
The name “Abu Al Kizan” pays homage to the local maritime heritage, with “Kizan” being the plural of “Koz,” a large shellfish, reinforcing the project's deep-rooted connection to the coastal landscape.
Strategically positioned in Khorfakkan, the project is adjacent to important landmarks such as Khorfakkan Corniche, the Old Souq, Khorfakkan Port, and the Al Suhub Rest Area. These nearby attractions are expected to enhance the project’s allure for tourism and investment opportunities.
Officials have reported that the developmental plan includes 201 land plots designated for 285 buildings, which will encompass a range of residential apartments, villas, mixed-use spaces, offices, a hotel, and a mosque. The aim is to foster a contemporary urban community that caters to diverse residential and commercial needs.
Attention to the natural contours of the land has been a priority in the design, ensuring that building heights are carefully managed across the project site. Environmental sustainability guidelines will be adhered to in order to safeguard marine life and maintain biodiversity in the region.
The Abu Al Kizan Marine Village reflects Sharjah’s visionary approach to creating sustainable urban destinations that harmoniously blend natural beauty with modern infrastructure and environmental stewardship.
Several key officials were present at the foundation stone event, including Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairman of Sharjah Islamic Bank; Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority; and Dr. Salah bin Butti Al Muhairi, Chairman of Mubadara.
