Sharjah Establishes Design Council to Enhance Creative Industries

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi has announced the creation of the “Sharjah Design Council,” a pioneering initiative designed to bolster the emirate's design landscape and nurture its creative industries.

This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Sharjah Creative Quarter (SCQ), which aims to draw in global talents, brands, and contemporary design methodologies to the emirate.

As part of this endeavor, SCQ is set to introduce “Sharjah Design Days,” a dedicated platform that will connect designers, creatives, and industry leaders from across the globe, enhancing the design ecosystem in Sharjah and reinforcing its regional and international stature.

The newly formed council will focus on developing specialized programs that foster a sustainable creative environment in Sharjah, further solidifying its reputation as a prominent center for design and cultural initiatives.

Key goals include creating regional and global partnerships in design sectors, supporting both emerging and seasoned designers through educational and training opportunities, and promoting innovative practices across various design fields.

Among its primary mandates, the council will formulate strategies and policies for the design sector, oversee program implementation, and host exhibitions, showcases, and specialized events.

Additionally, the council will pioneer environmentally and economically sustainable initiatives in prototype design and manufacturing, reinforcing Sharjah’s vision to be a leading hub for creativity and cultural progress in the region.
