His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Maritime Academy Board of Trustees, presided over the Board meeting at the Academy's headquarters in Khorfakkan, underlining Sharjah’s continued focus on maritime education excellence.
The Ruler commended the Academy for meeting international benchmarks in maritime training and education, placing it among leading global institutions. He praised trustees, faculty, staff and students for their collective commitment, teamwork and steadfast dedication that have driven this achievement.
His Highness noted the Academy’s steady advancement each year and affirmed his personal oversight of Khorfakkan’s development across sectors, with education a top priority. He highlighted students’ academic performance and discipline, and pointed to the campus’s supportive learning environment as a key factor in sustained success.
Board members examined several items on the agenda, including academic development, partnerships with overseas institutions and financial planning. They ratified the Sharjah Maritime Academy budget for the 2025–2026 academic year and approved new postgraduate regulations for maritime specialisations, reinforcing Sharjah’s strategy to elevate higher maritime education.
Dr Hashim Abdullah bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Chancellor of the Sharjah Maritime Academy, delivered a comprehensive report outlining the Academy’s academic and research milestones, international accreditations and plans for future expansion. The Board also assessed collaborations with prominent maritime universities to raise training and research standards.
The session was attended by senior Sharjah officials and education leaders, including Sheikh Khaled bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Dr Mansour bin Nassar and Dr Aisha Mohammed Bukhatir Al Shamsi. Discussions centred on strengthening the maritime education framework and supporting the UAE’s goal of developing a world-class academic hub in the maritime sector.
