Post by : Bianca Haleem

Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, chaired a crucial meeting on Monday with the Board of Trustees of the University of Al Dhaid. The discussion centered around the university's noteworthy achievements, development projects, and future initiatives.

Sheikh Sultan commended the university's rapid progress in agricultural and veterinary education. He acknowledged the remarkable success of the institution's students and the robust quality of its specialized programs in science, agriculture, and veterinary medicine.

The Ruler pointed out that universities in Sharjah have benefitted significantly from partnerships with prestigious international universities, enhancing their educational frameworks and elevating academic standards through accredited courses.

He emphasized the continuous need for educational enhancement and the implementation of leading academic practices. According to him, Sharjah universities have established themselves as vital contributors to the educational landscape in the region.

During the meeting, various administrative and educational development plans were evaluated, focusing on enhancing institutional effectiveness and supporting long-term growth strategies. Reports from key committees—Finance, Academic, Internal Audit, Compliance, and Financial Resources Development—were also reviewed.

The university highlighted its achievements from the past academic year, showcasing developments in educational infrastructure, including the introduction of a mobile veterinary clinic and a smart farm aimed at enriching practical learning.

Enhancements to the student learning experience were discussed, particularly the incorporation of modern facilities and advanced technologies that support the goal of cultivating skilled professionals in the agricultural and veterinary fields.

Plans for forging partnerships with leading global universities to offer dual-degree programs were also a point of discussion, along with upcoming summer training initiatives, including a program set for Royal Agricultural University students in 2026.

Aisha Ahmed Bushlaibi, Chancellor of the University of Al Dhaid, provided an overview of the institution's key accomplishments, such as the accreditation of its Skills Development Center by a UK-based entity and notable advancements in scientific research.

At the meeting's conclusion, Sheikh Sultan toured an exhibition featuring student research focused on sustainability, veterinary health, and smart agricultural technologies aimed at improving soil management and resource efficiency.

The exhibition showcased innovative agricultural systems combining fish and vertical farming, aligning with the UAE’s environmental and food security objectives.

Sheikh Sultan also reviewed projects in veterinary medicine and public health, highlighting awareness campaigns regarding antibiotics and their implications for health.

During his visit, he explored the mobile veterinary clinic designed to enhance students' clinical skills, promoting ethical veterinary practices.

Further discussions included ongoing and future expansion plans for the university, featuring a new theatre with advanced facilities and additional religious spaces.

The institution showcased plans for new agricultural labs, including specialized facilities aimed at bolstering training in sustainable practices.

Student amenities are also set to improve with the addition of new parking spaces to enhance campus services.

Sheikh Sultan additionally attended an exhibition by EKTIFA, featuring new organic food products, including a selection of dairy items and innovative honey products.

EKTIFA plans to introduce numerous organic products to the UAE market in the coming years, focusing on local food sustainability and self-sufficiency.
