Sharjah Forms New Committee to Guide Digital Transformation

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, has approved a new decree to create the Higher Committee for Digital Integration. This committee will guide and oversee Sharjah’s complete digital transformation journey. It will also work directly under the supervision of the Sharjah Executive Council.

The decree explains that the new committee will be responsible for supporting Sharjah’s move toward modern, efficient, and technology-driven government services. By forming this committee, Sharjah aims to make its digital systems stronger, safer, and more connected across all government departments.

The committee will be led by Sheikh Saud bin Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director-General of the Sharjah Digital Department. Several senior officials from major government sectors have been appointed as members. Their combined experience will help ensure steady progress in Sharjah’s digital goals.

Members include leaders from the departments of statistics, finance, municipal affairs, planning, legal affairs, and utilities. This diverse team will work together to achieve smooth digital integration across the emirate. Their collaboration ensures that digital development will cover all key public services, making government work easier, faster, and more transparent.

The Higher Committee for Digital Integration aims to support Sharjah’s long-term digital transformation strategy. Its main task is to make sure all government entities follow the same direction and goals. It will also monitor progress regularly and help solve any issues that slow down the digital shift.

By improving cooperation among government departments, the committee will reduce risks, avoid repeated efforts, and speed up the digital transformation process. This will help create a modern digital environment that benefits residents, businesses, and visitors.

The decree lists several major responsibilities for the committee. These include providing strategic oversight, making high-level decisions, and ensuring smooth coordination between government departments. The committee will also approve important digital policies and frameworks that guide overall progress.

Another responsibility is ensuring that Sharjah’s digital plans match national goals. The committee will track the performance of digital projects and step in whenever challenges arise. It will also help solve cross-sector issues that require cooperation from multiple departments.

The committee will supervise investment decisions for digital projects, encouraging smart spending and reducing duplication. It will work to build stronger cooperation among government departments and ensure that all digital systems connect smoothly with one another.

The committee is required to submit regular reports to the Executive Council. These reports will include updates on progress, challenges faced, and recommended solutions. This ensures that leadership always has clear information to make the best decisions for the emirate.

Membership of the committee will last for two years and can be extended for another two years. Even after its term ends, the committee will continue working until a new committee is appointed. Members may also be reappointed if necessary.

The decree also includes several legal guidelines related to how the committee will hold its meetings, carry out its duties, and implement decisions. These rules ensure that the committee functions smoothly and maintains strong governance throughout its work.

With this new committee, Sharjah takes a major step forward in building a more advanced, interconnected, and efficient digital future for everyone in the emirate.
