In a significant visit, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum toured Jebel Ali Port, managed by DP World, to evaluate port operations and trade metrics.
Throughout the visit, he received updates on the port's impressive operational output and its expanding multimodal logistics framework, incorporating both road and rail links. Recently, DP World successfully managed close to 200,000 TEUs via regional truck and rail routes, underscoring the resilience of the supply chain.
He commended the teams for their exceptional operational proficiency, which plays a crucial role in facilitating seamless global trade through this pivotal maritime hub. He articulated that Dubai’s success in global trade is a result of strategic foresight, robust infrastructure, and its capacity to bridge markets worldwide.
The Crown Prince pointed out that Jebel Ali Port has been instrumental in driving Dubai's economic expansion for nearly half a century, bolstering global and regional supply chains and ensuring consistent trade flow under varying conditions.
He also emphasized Dubai's commitment to enhancing multimodal connectivity and investing in cutting-edge infrastructure to elevate supply chain efficiency, thereby reinforcing its status as a leading global trade center.
Facilities Reviewed During the Visit
During his tour, Sheikh Hamdan assessed three critical facilities:
Jebel Ali Rail Terminal, which integrates the port with the national rail system, boasting a yearly capacity of 800,000 TEUs, with future expansion plans targeting 1.6 million TEUs.
BOXBAY automated storage system, a high-bay container storage innovation aimed at enhancing port capacity.
Terminal 2 operations control room, a vital monitoring facility within the port.
The rail terminal currently facilitates up to eight services daily, promoting expedited cargo movement and improved multimodal logistics integration.
Jebel Ali Port's Strategic Significance
Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) alongside Jebel Ali Port forms a significant logistics and industrial zone, supporting about 12,000 enterprises across diverse sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, retail, healthcare, automotive, and food.
