H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, expressed his deep pride in the nation’s athletes for their excellent performance at the 3rd Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain. He said that the success of the UAE athletes reflects the strength of the country’s leadership support and the athletes’ commitment to excellence.
Sheikh Mansoor highlighted that the consistent achievements of UAE athletes at regional and international events are not mere coincidences. Instead, they are the outcome of dedication, preparation, and national pride. He added that the leadership’s unwavering encouragement and the athletes’ determination continue to push the UAE to new sporting heights.
The UAE contingent, consisting of 152 athletes, secured 31 medals and ranked eighth overall among 45 participating countries. The team also topped the Arab nations in the medal tally. Sheikh Mansoor described every medal as a story of hard work, passion, and love for the UAE.
The UAE’s achievements at the Games included record-breaking performances in athletics, outstanding debuts in Muay Thai and camel racing, and a historic swimming gold medal in the 50-metre butterfly — the fastest in the history of the Asian Youth Games. The jiu-jitsu team also made the country proud with multiple podium finishes.
Sheikh Mansoor praised the teamwork and unity displayed by the entire UAE contingent. He said the athletes, coaches, and staff worked as one family, sharing the goal of raising the UAE flag high. He also thanked the UAE Embassy in Bahrain for its ongoing support to the team, which ensured smooth participation in the competition.
The UAE’s team of 107 men and 45 women competed in 19 sports, including athletics, swimming, boxing, camel racing, triathlon, jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, golf, and mixed martial arts. Their strong performance in various events demonstrated the nation’s growing sporting capability and the development of youth talent.
Concluding his remarks, Sheikh Mansoor affirmed that the UAE will continue to invest in sports development and youth programs to maintain its position as a regional leader in athletics. He said every medal represents a new milestone and a promise of even greater achievements ahead.
