Sheikh Mohammed Marks 80 Years Of United Nations With Message

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, delivered a recorded message to mark the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

He emphasized that this anniversary comes at a critical time, as the world faces multiple global challenges including conflicts, climate crises, and humanitarian issues. Sheikh Mohammed said the anniversary is an opportunity to reaffirm the principles and values of the UN Charter, which are essential for maintaining international peace and security.

The United Arab Emirates’ Consistent Foreign Policy

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the UAE’s consistent foreign policy, which has been guided by dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence since the country’s formation. The UAE supports initiatives that encourage tolerance and cooperation among nations, while also focusing on sustainable development across economic, social, and cultural sectors.

He stressed that this policy approach reflects the UAE’s commitment to global peace and aligns with the core values promoted by the United Nations. By maintaining strong international relationships, the UAE has contributed to regional and global stability for decades.

UAE’s Active Humanitarian Role

The Vice President also underlined the UAE’s active role in humanitarian work. He mentioned the country’s efforts in delivering aid to people affected by crises, combating terrorism, and countering extremism and hate speech around the world.

Sheikh Mohammed noted that the United Nations was founded eight decades ago to protect humanity’s rights to peace, justice, and dignity. Today, it remains crucial for renewing its pledge to global cooperation and addressing emerging challenges, from conflicts to humanitarian crises, ensuring a better future for all nations.

UAE’s History With The United Nations

The UAE became a member of the United Nations in 1971, shortly after the country was formed. This step allowed the UAE to actively participate in global decision-making and contribute to international peace and security.

The country served as a member of the UN Security Council during the 1986-1987 term and again in 2022-2023, reflecting its continued commitment to supporting the UN’s mission. Through these roles, the UAE has contributed to international dialogue, peacekeeping, and development efforts across the globe.

About The United Nations

Founded in 1945, the United Nations emerged in the aftermath of World War II with a mission to prevent conflicts, promote peace and security, support sustainable development, and uphold human rights. The UN also plays a key role in providing humanitarian aid to those in need during conflicts, natural disasters, and other crises.

Headquartered in New York, the UN represents 193 Member States, all guided by a shared set of principles laid out in its Charter. These principles include respect for sovereignty, equality, and collaboration among nations, ensuring that countries work together to face global challenges effectively.

UAE’s Contributions to Global Peace

Over the years, the UAE has been recognized for its humanitarian contributions, including providing aid to conflict zones, supporting refugees, and funding global health initiatives. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the UAE’s efforts align closely with the UN’s goals.

By promoting tolerance, coexistence, and sustainable development, the UAE demonstrates how a small but proactive nation can have a significant positive impact on global affairs. The country also participates in programs that combat extremism and promote education, healthcare, and economic opportunities worldwide.

Significance Of The 80th Anniversary

The 80th anniversary of the UN is a reminder of the organization’s central role in safeguarding humanity. Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that the UN continues to face challenges but remains the most trusted global institution for cooperation among nations.

He stressed that the world must renew its commitment to the UN’s principles, ensuring that it remains effective for the next 80 years. This includes addressing issues such as climate change, international security, humanitarian crises, and global inequalities.

UAE’s Vision For A Better World

Sheikh Mohammed called for continued dialogue and collaboration among nations, reflecting the UAE’s belief that peace, tolerance, and cooperation are fundamental for global stability. He encouraged countries to work together to protect human dignity, promote justice, and advance sustainable development, in line with the UN’s long-term goals.

He concluded by saying that the United Nations remains the hope of mankind, and the UAE is committed to supporting the organization in delivering peace, security, and development for all nations.

Through this message, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed the UAE’s active engagement with the United Nations and its role in promoting global peace, tolerance, and humanitarian work. As the UN celebrates 80 years, the UAE continues to stand as a reliable partner in international cooperation, supporting the organization’s mission to create a safer, fairer, and more sustainable world.
