Sheikh Mohammed Unveils Al Maktoum Archives in Dubai

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

In a significant moment for the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister, inaugurated the Al Maktoum Archives.—a key initiative aimed at safeguarding the legacy and vision of Dubai’s ruling family. Attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the event marks an essential milestone in documenting Dubai’s remarkable evolution into a global hub.

The Al Maktoum Archives will act as a detailed repository representing the lives and accomplishments of Dubai’s rulers. It will house rare documents, literature, photographs, and biographies that narrate the inspiring journey of the Al Maktoum family. This initiative aims to preserve the emirate’s rich cultural and political history while illustrating its development under effective governance. Reflecting Sheikh Mohammed’s belief in learning from the past to shape a better future, the archives are a testament to this vision.

Managed by the Executive Office of Sheikh Mohammed, the archives will elevate the intellectual, humanitarian, and cultural legacy of Dubai’s leadership through various publications and media content. During the launch, Sheikh Mohammed stated that the Al Maktoum Archives would serve as "an open book that provides insights into Dubai’s governance history, acting as a blueprint for future growth." He described the initiative as a "vital pillar that reinforces our national history and serves as a guide for those unraveling the keys to our success and leadership essence."

This initiative will provide invaluable resources for decision-makers, scholars, and historians interested in the leadership principles and successes of Dubai’s rulers. The facility's exhibition showcases the Al Maktoum family tree, historic photographs from as far back as 1894, and collections of rare literature that poignantly capture Dubai’s transformation from a desert settlement to a global economic and cultural leader.

“Preserving our national heritage is not only our obligation; it is a right for future generations,” Sheikh Mohammed remarked. “The narrative of a ruler is intrinsically linked to their people. The leaders and citizens of the UAE will remain united in spirit forever.” His sentiments encapsulated the essence of unity and forward momentum that has characterized the UAE since its inception.

In order to ensure the sustainability of this project, Sheikh Mohammed has issued a decree establishing the Board of Directors for the Al Maktoum Archives Foundation, which will be chaired by his Executive Office. This decree took immediate effect and has been officially published.

The Al Maktoum Archives symbolize Dubai’s profound respect for its heritage and the visionary leadership that continues to steer its future. More than a simple collection of records, it embodies a living tribute to the enduring spirit, wisdom, and humanitarian principles of the Al Maktoum family—a legacy that will inspire generations ahead.
