His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, presided over the graduation ceremony for the sixth cohort of certified Quranic reciters from the Holy Quran Academy. The event took place at the University City Hall in Sharjah, where 311 graduates were awarded Quranic certifications.
As part of the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan unveiled the completion of the extensive “Rhetorical Interpretation” encyclopedia, an ambitious Quranic initiative consisting of 68 volumes, which took four years to finalize. This encyclopedia offers an in-depth rhetorical explanation of the Holy Quran.
He also introduced three new Quranic encyclopedia projects, including the “Quranic Word” encyclopedia, which examines each word in the Holy Quran, exploring its meaning, linguistic roots, derivation, terminology, and role in context.
In addition to launching these projects, Sheikh Sultan signed the first copies of two encyclopedias dedicated to Quranic reading methodologies: the encyclopedia of Asim al-Kufi’s readings, with contributions from Shu’bah and Hafs over 22 volumes, and the separate encyclopedia of Ibn Kathir covering 17 volumes. This extensive endeavor involves narration charts and explanatory texts developed by 63 scholars.
In his remarks, Sheikh Sultan expressed pride in the completion of these enlightening projects and commended Sharjah’s institutions for their longstanding commitment to advancing science, education, and Islamic studies for over 50 years.
Moreover, he announced the establishment of “Dar Al-Hadith” within Sharjah University City, a dedicated institution for Hadith studies, which will offer specialized certificates in Hadith sciences, complementing the Holy Quran Academy and Al Qasimia University.
Sheikh Sultan reaffirmed the emirate's commitment to bolstering Arabic language programs, Quranic studies, and Islamic education, emphasizing the establishment of advanced educational institutions with robust scientific and cultural bases.
The ruler highlighted Sharjah’s pivotal role in furthering Arabic language and Quranic education across Africa, pointing out that many African students attending Al Qasimia University later return to set up Arabic and Quranic learning centers in their native countries.
Dr Khalifa Musbah Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Holy Quran Academy, expressed gratitude to Sheikh Sultan for his relentless support of Quranic education and scholarly initiatives.
He shared that the Academy is devising a strategy for 2027-2029, emphasizing the digitization of Quranic educational projects to make them globally accessible through interactive platforms.
Dr Tunaiji also discussed the success of the Sharjah Global Electronic Quran Recitation Centre through the “Thamarah al-Thamarah” project, which now spans six continents and has positively impacted hundreds of students engaged in Quranic studies.
Additionally, the Academy launched the Citizen Reciter Project, collaborating with several Islamic institutions in Sharjah to support and train Emirati Quran memorizers and reciters.
The attendees of the ceremony viewed a documentary detailing the “Thamarah al-Thamarah” initiative, which educates graduates to become Quran teachers and reciters on a global scale.
Dr Muhammad Safi Al-Mustaghani, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, emphasized the significance of the “Rhetorical Interpretation” encyclopedia, which involved 68 scholars worldwide analyzing the rhetorical essence, structure, and linguistic aesthetics of Quranic verses.
Concluding the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan engaged in commemorative photographs with the scholars and contributors of the Academy’s scientific projects, while graduates received their Quranic certificates during an event with esteemed officials, scholars, and researchers in attendance.
