Shraddha Kapoor Shares How Her Family Sees Her Real Emotions Behind the Calm Public Image”

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor recently opened up about the difference between how people see her in public and how her family knows her privately. While fans and colleagues often describe her as calm, soft-spoken, and composed, Shraddha revealed that her emotional and sometimes short-tempered side is visible only to those closest to her.

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Shraddha said, “People might think I'm very calm, composed and soft-spoken… which I am, but if you ask the same question to my mother, father and brother, you'll get very different answers. And I think that side of me comes out the most with the people closest to me.”
She further added, “I quite

This candid admission highlights a truth many people experience—there is often a difference between the face we show to the world and the emotions we express with family or close friends.

Why Do People Hide Their Emotions in Public?

Psychologist Anjali Gursahaney explains that from childhood, many people are taught to control emotions in public to avoid judgment or being seen as weak. Strong emotions can make a person feel vulnerable. As a result, people reserve their raw feelings for those they trust deeply, such as family members or very close friends.

“In work or social spaces, there is pressure to appear calm, composed, and ‘together.’ The social mask helps people function without revealing vulnerability,” Gursahaney said. She added that people often feel safe to drop this mask at home because they know their emotions will be accepted.

The Impact of Suppressing Emotions

Constantly hiding emotions in public can have long-term effects on mental health and relationships. According to experts:

Emotional Fatigue: Continuously bottling up feelings can cause stress, irritability, and burnout.

Physical Effects: Suppressed emotions often show up as headaches, stomach problems, or sleep difficulties.

Relationship Strain: Family or close friends may carry the emotional burden, leading to tension in relationships.

Reduced Authenticity: Over time, people may feel confused about their true self—whether they are the composed public version or the emotional private version.

Healthy Ways to Express Emotions

Experts suggest ways to balance maintaining composure in public and expressing emotions safely:

Journaling or Voice Notes: Writing down or recording feelings helps process emotions privately.

Therapy or Coaching: Professional help provides a safe space to explore emotions and learn healthy regulation.

Trusted Circle: Having one or two friends where honesty is welcomed can provide emotional support.

Creative Outlets: Music, painting, dance, or writing can serve as powerful ways to release bottled-up emotions.

Mindful Regulation: Pausing, taking deep breaths, and acknowledging emotions rather than suppressing them completely helps maintain a healthy emotional balance.

By sharing her personal experience, Shraddha also sheds light on the larger social phenomenon of emotional masking. Many people hide their feelings due to societal expectations but can find relief by practicing mindfulness, creative expression, and trusting relationships.
