Dubai Achieves Milestone with 234 Kidney Transplants

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai, UAE – December 2025: Dubai Health proudly announces the successful execution of 234 kidney transplant surgeries since its programme began in 2016, boasting an impressive success rate exceeding 95 percent. This initiative highlights the power of collaboration across various sectors in enhancing vital healthcare services.

The programme is a product of partnerships with federal, local, and private entities, including the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Dubai Health Authority, and Dubai Healthcare City Authority, among others. It aligns closely with the national Hayat Program for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue, ensuring essential access to life-saving treatments.

Since its launch, the programme has successfully served patients from diverse nationalities, with 31.2% of recipients being children. The breakdown of the surgeries includes 120 at Dubai Health hospitals, 90 at Mediclinic City Hospital, and 24 at Al Qassimi Hospital. Contributions from both living and deceased donors signify increased community awareness surrounding organ donation.

His Excellency Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health and President of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), remarked:
"These efforts showcase our collaborative approach to organ transplantation and assert our dedication to offering specialised care. Our leadership prioritises human health, amplifying Dubai’s reputation for medical excellence."

Dubai Health upholds multidisciplinary care throughout the transplant journey, offering thorough assessments, surgical interventions, and structured long-term follow-up to maintain the highest medical standards.

The Al Jalila Foundation aids patients through initiatives like ‘Your Donation Saves Lives’, promoting organ donation and funding treatments. This programme has supported 66 patients (31.4% of all transplant cases). Additionally, the ‘A’awen’ programme delivers vital care to those who may not afford specialised treatments, demonstrating Dubai Health’s commitment to ensuring accessible healthcare.

Continuous specialised kidney care is offered at Dubai Hospital, Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, Al Twar Dialysis Center, and Al Barsha Dialysis Center, reinforcing the promise of world-class medical services for patients.
