The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has released updated regulations that will limit air travelers departing from Singapore to a maximum of two power banks per individual, effective April 15, 2026. This decision aligns with enhanced global aviation safety protocols designed to mitigate fire risks associated with lithium battery devices aboard aircraft.
According to the new rules, passengers are prohibited from charging their power banks during flights and are advised against using them for charging personal devices in-flight. Those carrying more than two power banks must dispose of any surplus before boarding their flights, ensuring compliance with these recent guidelines.
These changes come in response to safety recommendations from the International Civil Aviation Organization, which pointed out the dangers of lithium batteries, including risks of overheating and short circuits. Authorities stress that these measures are vital for enhancing passenger safety while keeping travel convenient.
Singaporean airlines, such as Singapore Airlines and Scoot, had already put restrictions in place regarding the use and charging of power banks on flights beginning in 2025. Passengers are urged to review specific airline policies prior to travel, as there may be additional restrictions in place aside from the newly established baseline rules.
