This June, Singapore's Housing and Development Board (HDB) will unveil 2,520 Build-To-Order (BTO) flats, aiming to significantly cut down on waiting periods for homebuyers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance housing accessibility in the city-state.
These new units will feature across three key residential projects located in Sembawang and Ang Mo Kio. This launch stands as a segment of a larger release involving about 6,900 BTO flats, with over one-third of these properties promising a waiting period of three years or less.
The Sembawang Portico project will boast the shortest waiting time at just around two years and seven months, offering a total of 875 units that cater to various household sizes, including two-room flexi, three-room, four-room, and five-room flats.
In Sembawang, the Sembawang Brook project will also provide 1,160 units, ranging from two-room flexi flats to three-generation homes, with an anticipated waiting period of about two years and nine months, marking it as one of the fastest housing projects recently.
Meanwhile, in the established area of Ang Mo Kio, Kebun Baru Ridge will feature 485 three-room and four-room flats. This development is expected to be finished within three years and one month and will include essential community amenities, like a minimart and a dining outlet, for enhanced convenience.
These reduced waiting periods underscore the recovery of Singapore’s public housing sector post-COVID-19 pandemic, where multiple projects were delayed, extending waiting times to four to five years for buyers.
HDB reports that the median waiting time for new BTO projects has now dropped below four years. This newest launch reflects Singapore’s ongoing promise to boost housing supply and streamline project completion timelines, aiding families in achieving homeownership more promptly.
