Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, 79, was admitted to a hospital in Delhi on Monday evening after experiencing mild respiratory difficulties. Sources from the hospital revealed that the admission was largely precautionary, given her long-standing battle with chronic cough and bronchial asthma.
Medical professionals indicated that the recent drop in temperature and elevated pollution levels in Delhi have led to a mild exacerbation of her asthma. She has been given antibiotics and other supportive treatments, and is reportedly responding positively.
According to hospital officials, Gandhi is receiving close attention from a chest specialist. The hospital chairman stated, “Her condition is stable, and she is being monitored closely. Discharge will be assessed based on her recovery, expected in a day or two.”
This hospitalization follows previous health issues, including a severe stomach infection in June 2025, after which she spent four days in treatment. That same month, she also had a routine health check-up in Shimla affirming her overall health.
Officials have stressed that her current hospitalization is a standard precautionary measure, reflecting her medical history. Family members and political colleagues are being kept updated, and hospital staff ensured there is no immediate health concern.
Gandhi continues to receive thorough care and is anticipated to recover fully while under observation. Medical personnel will keep a close eye on her condition until she is stable enough for discharge.
