Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) has announced the launch of a new scheduled air service by Indian airline SpiceJet, establishing a direct connection between Ahmedabad and Sharjah International Airport. The move marks another significant step in the airport’s continued efforts to widen its international network and strengthen air transport ties between the United Arab Emirates and India — two countries that share deep economic, cultural, and family connections.
Under the newly introduced schedule, flights commenced on Thursday, 5 February, and will operate five times a week using Boeing 737 aircraft. The service is designed to accommodate rising passenger demand while offering travellers increased flexibility and convenient travel options between the two cities. The addition of this route is expected to benefit business travellers, tourists, and families alike, further enhancing cross-border mobility.
xThe inclusion of Ahmedabad into Sharjah Airport’s growing destination portfolio aligns with the airport’s broader long-term strategy to expand its global footprint and attract more international carriers. India continues to remain one of Sharjah Airport’s most important source markets, contributing significantly to both inbound and outbound passenger traffic each year.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, welcomed the introduction of SpiceJet’s Ahmedabad flights, emphasising that the new service supports the Authority’s vision of enhancing passenger experience by providing a wider array of travel choices backed by efficient operational services. He noted that Sharjah Airport continues to invest heavily in infrastructure upgrades and smart service solutions aimed at ensuring seamless procedures, faster processing times, and smooth passenger movement throughout the terminal.
He further highlighted the Authority’s commitment to building strong, long-term partnerships with airlines as part of its mission to expand the destination network and open new avenues for cooperation. According to him, this collaborative approach reinforces Sharjah Airport’s ambition to consolidate its standing as a leading regional aviation hub known for service excellence, operational efficiency, and a fully integrated travel experience.
The launch of the Ahmedabad route comes amid steady expansion in Sharjah Airport’s international reach. Over recent months, the airport has added several new destinations including Krabi, Munich, Prague, Warsaw Modlin, Vienna, Addis Ababa, and Sochi. In addition, direct flights to London are scheduled to begin in March 2026, further strengthening the airport’s European connectivity.
Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet, described the Ahmedabad–Sharjah route as a meaningful addition to the airline’s international network. He stated that the service reflects the strong and steadily increasing travel demand between India and the UAE. Sharjah, he noted, remains a key destination for Indian travellers for employment, tourism, and family visits, and the new direct service will provide a dependable and convenient travel alternative. He also expressed optimism about continued collaboration with Sharjah Airport Authority as the airline works to expand its presence across the region and enhance connectivity from major Indian cities.
Throughout 2025, Sharjah Airport recorded notable growth, expanding its network to more than 100 global destinations while welcoming four new international airlines into its portfolio. The year also saw the introduction of additional flight services and key operational improvements that contributed to faster passenger processing and reduced waiting times, reinforcing the airport’s reputation for efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Sharjah Airport Authority reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to working closely with airline partners to further develop its route network and deliver a seamless, efficient, and distinguished travel experience for passengers from around the world.
