Emergency Landing of SpiceJet Flight in Kolkata After Engine Issues

Emergency Landing of SpiceJet Flight in Kolkata After Engine Issues

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A SpiceJet flight traveling from Mumbai to Kolkata executed a safe emergency landing late on Sunday night due to a technical issue with one of its engines, as confirmed by airport authorities. Flight SG670, which had over 170 passengers on board, landed at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 11:38 PM following the pilot's declaration of full emergency.

Reports indicate that all passengers and crew members were unharmed, and the emergency status was lifted shortly after landing. Emergency response teams were prepared during the landing to ensure the safety of everyone onboard.

The pilot noticed irregular engine behavior right before starting the descent and promptly notified air traffic control. An internal investigation by SpiceJet is currently underway to find the specific cause of the engine malfunction.

Kolkata Airport officials reported, “The flight landed safely, and the full emergency has been withdrawn at 11:38 PM.”

This incident follows disruptions at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which impacted over 100 flights due to an Air Traffic Control (ATC) system failure. SpiceJet had previously alerted passengers about potential delays, stating, “Due to ATC congestion at Delhi, all Departures/Arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected. Passengers are encouraged to check their flight status via spicejet.com.”

SpiceJet has encountered technical issues on flights before. On September 12, a Q400 aircraft traveling from Kandla to Mumbai made an emergency landing after losing an outer wheel upon takeoff. That flight also landed safely, and all passengers disembarked without complications.

The airline assures that all emergency landings are executed in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure the utmost safety for passengers.

Passengers aboard Flight SG670 are reported safe, and regular operations resumed after the emergency situation.
