SS Rajamouli, renowned for his monumental films, has offered his insights on James Cameron’s latest work, Avatar: Fire and Ash. During a digital conversation with Cameron to promote the movie, Rajamouli revealed he was the first viewer in India to experience this third chapter of the Avatar saga, a moment he labeled as “extraordinarily special.”
He conveyed his admiration for Cameron’s artistry, commending the film’s stunning visuals, intricate sequences, and character development. “Experiencing Fire and Ash was a delight. Kudos for crafting such intricate visuals, sequences, and characters. I felt like a child in the theater immersed in the Wind Traders, the Ash People, and the intriguing new characters. Varang was a visual marvel,” he stated.
Rajamouli also emphasized the narrative's emotional intensity, particularly through the journey of Jake Sully, who is now fully embedded in Pandora. He remarked, “I believed the first Avatar was powerful; could the sequel surpass it? In this one, it’s even stronger.”
The filmmaker teased significant conflicts within the storyline, especially between Jake Sully and the former human military leader Miles Quaritch, alongside the dynamics with Varang and Neytiri. “The film showcases two captivating conflicts: one between Jake and Miles and another involving Neytiri and Varang. While I disliked Miles in the first film, in Fire and Ash, my feelings are conflicted. The dialogues between Jake and Miles were beautifully nuanced, filled with compelling tension,” he commented.
Avatar: Fire and Ash marks the third chapter in the franchise, following the releases of Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). The film had its grand premiere at the Dolby Theatre on December 1, 2025, with a theatrical release planned for December 19. Rajamouli’s enthusiastic feedback heightens anticipation among fans both in India and globally, as they prepare to re-engage with the visually stunning and emotionally rich universe of Pandora.
