Super Huey Downed in Mindanao Amid Typhoon Kalmaegi Relief Effort

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Manila, November 4, 2025 — A Philippine military Super Huey conducting relief flights for Typhoon Kalmaegi victims went down in northern Mindanao on Tuesday, authorities said. The helicopter was headed toward the coastal city of Butuan when it crashed under circumstances that have not yet been disclosed.

The Eastern Mindanao Command said the aircraft was operating in support of relief missions when the incident occurred. Search-and-recovery teams have been deployed, and officials have not yet confirmed how many people were aboard or whether there are fatalities.

The Super Huey is a mainstay of the Philippine Air Force for disaster response and troop transport. Its loss comes as communities contend with widespread flooding and power outages caused by Typhoon Kalmaegi, which has forced thousands from their homes across central and southern provinces.

Photographs from Cebu and neighboring areas show submerged residences and blocked roadways as emergency crews work to move supplies to isolated communities. The military affirmed its ongoing commitment to relief operations, with other aircraft redirected to sustain assistance efforts.

Officials said additional information about the crash will be provided after recovery teams complete their work and relatives of those involved have been notified.
