Indian Government Aids Major Vikrant Jaitly Detained in UAE for Over a Year

Post by : Bianca Haleem

New Delhi – The Indian government has affirmed its commitment to providing comprehensive support to Major Vikrant Jaitly (retd), sibling of actress Celina Jaitly, who has been held in the UAE for more than 14 months.

The Delhi High Court has recently mandated the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure that Major Jaitly receives adequate legal assistance, which includes timely communication with his family and ongoing consular visits. This directive followed a petition from Celina Jaitly seeking updates and support regarding her brother’s legal and personal circumstances.

According to External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the Indian Embassy in the UAE has completed four consular visits to Major Jaitly and maintains ongoing contact with his family, including his spouse. “Our commitment to assist any Indian national in need abroad is unwavering,” he remarked.

Celina Jaitly has claimed that her brother was unlawfully captured and held since September 2024. Despite the prolonged detention, she noted the challenge of retrieving information about his well-being and legal standing. The government has clarified that Major Jaitly’s arrest is tied to an ongoing investigation, and Indian authorities are actively engaging with UAE officials to oversee his condition.

This situation highlights the difficulties Indian citizens often encounter overseas and emphasizes the critical role of consular support in safeguarding their rights and well-being during extended detentions.
