Abu Dhabi, UAE – The esteemed Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has selected the Palestinian non-profit, Taawon, as the third honoree for its seventh edition in 2026. Taawon will be celebrated during the award ceremony at the Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi on 4 February 2026.
Taawon will receive this distinguished award alongside the historic peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as Afghan education advocate Zarqa Yaftali.
Recognized for its enduring humanitarian and development efforts, Taawon serves over one million individuals annually across Palestine. Founded in 1983, the organization has devoted more than US$1 billion towards initiatives in education, youth empowerment, orphan care, cultural preservation, community development, health, agriculture, and emergency humanitarian support.
With over 8,200 projects undertaken, Taawon aims to enhance the economic, social, and cultural conditions of youth and communities. The organization also strives to safeguard Palestinian heritage and encourage sustainable development practices.
Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, noted Taawon's selection due to its substantial humanitarian impact and its commitment to bolstering Palestinian society in challenging circumstances. He remarked that the organization has progressed from immediate relief to sustained development in education, health, and social unity.
Dr. Nabil H. Qaddumi, Chairman of Taawon’s Board, expressed pride in receiving the award and gratitude to the selection committee. He stated that this recognition will enhance Taawon’s ability to expand its programs and showcase humanitarian needs in Palestine on an international scale.
Earlier, the award recognized the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, alongside Zarqa Yaftali. Leaders from both nations welcomed this acknowledgment as a form of support for peace in the Caucasus. Meanwhile, Zarqa Yaftali shared that this recognition symbolizes hope for girls and women in Afghanistan and worldwide.
Since its inception in 2019, the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has honored 20 recipients from 20 different countries, including notable figures like Pope Francis and Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, for their remarkable contributions toward peace, dialogue, and human coexistence.
