Google Turns 27 With Throwback Doodle And Global Celebrations

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Google celebrated its 27th birthday today with a nostalgic doodle on its homepage, bringing back its “first ever” 1998 logo. The throwback doodle delighted users worldwide, while employees across Google offices had their own festive celebrations, reflecting on the company’s journey and achievements since its founding.

Festivities At Google Bengaluru

At the Bengaluru campus, birthday celebrations were in full swing. Keerthana M, a project management apprentice, shared glimpses of the event on LinkedIn. She described the atmosphere as filled with “TGIT (Thank Google It’s Thursday) energy” and highlighted the café decorations, abundant food, and the celebratory cake. The event gave employees a sense of being part of something larger than themselves.

Why September 27 Is Celebrated

Although Google was incorporated on September 4, 1998, the company celebrates its birthday on September 27. This date marks the day Google indexed a record number of web pages, symbolizing its significant growth and impact on how the world searches and connects online. The decision underscores Google’s focus on achievements rather than just formal incorporation.

Humble Beginnings Of Google

Google began as a project run out of a garage by Stanford PhD students Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The company initially redefined how users accessed information online, setting a foundation for its growth into a global tech powerhouse. Over the years, Google expanded its services far beyond search, becoming an ecosystem that influences daily life and digital interaction worldwide.

IPO And Formation Of Alphabet

In 2004, Google went public through its IPO, solidifying its financial and technological influence. Later, in 2015, Alphabet Inc. was created as the parent company, expanding Google’s portfolio and reinforcing its position as a leading technology conglomerate. Alphabet oversees a wide range of initiatives, from AI and cloud computing to autonomous vehicles and sustainability projects.

Google Today: More Than A Search Engine

At 27, Google is no longer just a search engine. It has evolved into a global digital ecosystem, encompassing tools, platforms, and services that shape everyday life. Google’s market capitalization exceeds $3 trillion, and its influence spans across communication, information, digital entertainment, productivity, and more. The company’s innovations continue to redefine technology and the way people interact with the internet.

Employee Reflections And Legacy

Employees worldwide, like those in Bengaluru, celebrated the anniversary with enthusiasm, reflecting on Google’s impact on their professional lives and the broader tech industry. The celebrations highlighted the company’s culture of innovation, creativity, and collaboration, which have been central to its growth and enduring influence in the technology sector.

Google’s 27th birthday serves as a milestone in the company’s journey from a garage project to a global tech leader. With its nostalgic doodle, employee festivities, and continued innovations, Google continues to shape the digital world, inspiring millions and setting the stage for future technological advancements.
