Terengganu Teacher Faces Multiple Sexual Assault Charges

Post by : Shakul

In Terengganu's Setiu Sessions Court, a 42-year-old teacher has denied seven serious sexual assault charges related to two teenage male students.

The defendant, identified as Darusalam Ab Rahman, made his plea after the charges were presented by Judge Ahmad Fadhli Mahmud on Wednesday.

The initial charges detail supposed WhatsApp communications with a 17-year-old boy aimed at committing physical sexual assault. Allegations state these acts occurred at a residence in Kampung Anak Ikan, Besut, on various occasions in May, specifically on the 5th, 8th, and 10th, during late-night hours.

These offenses are categorized under Section 12(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (SOACA) 2017, alongside Section 16(1), which poses a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

Furthermore, the teacher faces two counts of physically assaulting the same 17-year-old. These incidents were allegedly committed in front of a restaurant and a local residence in Kampung Anak Ikan on May 11.

These acts fall under Section 14(a) of SOACA 2017, referenced with Section 16(1), leading to a possible sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment and whipping.

Additionally, the accused stands charged with two more offenses involving a 15-year-old male student, allegedly happening in a school toilet in Besut on May 8.

During the court session, Judge Ahmad Fadhli Mahmud approved bail at RM22,000, requiring one surety, along with monthly police check-ins and a strict ban on contacting prosecution witnesses.

The court has mandated the teacher to stay under legal supervision, with the next hearing set for July 6 at the Besut Sessions Court.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Akmal Mohd Jazlee is leading the prosecution, with the defense party remaining unnamed.

The case is continuing as authorities process the allegations under Malaysia’s laws addressing child sexual offenses.
