In Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, the Royal Thai Army's Volunteer Center, part of the 37th Military District, has mobilized personnel to enhance flood protection systems. This initiative aims to mitigate the risk of river overflow as the peak rainy season approaches.
Rapid Construction of Flood Barriers
Sixteen volunteers from the 37th Military District and the 3rd Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment have collaborated with the 3rd Development Division to establish both temporary and semi-permanent flood barriers, protecting residential regions and vital economic zones.
Detailed Operations Across Various Zones
The efforts were categorized into different work zones. In Zone A, teams secured Big Bag flood barriers using UV-resistant tarpaulins. Zone B concentrated on bolstering the Koh Sai community barriers with a Portland cement mix combined with a water-reducing agent to enhance structural integrity.
Preparation of Additional Supports
In Zone C, near the wastewater treatment facility in Tha Sai, volunteers filled sandbags to further reinforce the flood defenses in Koh Sai. This organized endeavor received support from local officials and community volunteers.
Proactive Measures Before Heavy Rains
Officials indicated that this preventive measure aims to minimize flooding risks before the seasonal rains grow more severe. Improving river embankments at this stage should enhance the area's resistance to rising waters during monsoon season.
Ongoing Disaster Preparedness Efforts
The Royal Thai Army emphasized the importance of readiness for disasters, assuring collaboration with local agencies and residents to safeguard lives, property, and community infrastructure throughout the rainy season.
