Thailand Sets Sights on Tourism Growth with VNL 2026

Post by : Shakul

Thailand is poised to enhance its profile in the sports tourism arena by backing the upcoming 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL 2026). This international event is projected to bring substantial economic rewards and elevate the nation’s global standing. Officials are optimistic that this tournament will drive tourism and solidify Thailand's reputation as a premier venue for international sporting events.

Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, a government spokesperson, expressed that sports serve as a significant soft power instrument in luring visitors, expanding economic prospects, and showcasing Thailand on a global platform. He highlighted how events of this scale, like the Volleyball Nations League, enhance the nation’s image and demonstrate its capacity to host major tournaments.

Kicking off on June 3 in Nanjing, the tournament has garnered immense interest from volleyball enthusiasts, athletes, officials, and global media. Thailand's role in hosting segments of this competition is viewed as a strategic measure to exhibit its capability in organizing large-scale sporting activities and accommodating international guests.

Officials emphasized Thailand's competencies in sports infrastructure, event management, hospitality, and tourism services. These strengths are vital in positioning Thailand as a preferred contender for international sports and major entertainment events in the region.

Forecasts from the Tourism and Sports Economics Division predict that hosting the VNL 2026 in Thailand could yield over 2 billion baht in economic circulation. Anticipated revenues will stem from various sectors, including lodging, dining, transportation, retail, and entertainment services.

The event is also expected to generate job opportunities and aid local commerce in hosting regions. Numerous sectors such as hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, event organizers, and small businesses are likely to gain from the influx of both domestic and international visitors attending the event.

In addition to its immediate economic influence, this event will afford Thailand valuable international exposure through television broadcasts, digital media, and social platforms. Authorities are confident that this visibility will further reinforce Thailand's reputation as a leading sports and tourism destination while supporting the future growth of its sports tourism sector.
