The Thai government has launched the Student Loan Fund's Pre-Approve system as of May 16, aimed at enhancing educational access for students facing financial challenges in the upcoming 2026 academic year. This initiative aligns with the government's commitment to fostering equal educational opportunities and addressing social inequality among Thai youths.
Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized the vital role of education in national progress. The Student Loan Fund (SLF) has been established to aid students who encounter financial barriers while pursuing studies at secondary, vocational, or university levels.
The newly introduced Pre-Approve system streamlines the loan process, allowing eligible new borrowers to receive pre-approval prior to formally applying for their educational loans. Priority will be given to individuals holding state welfare cards, those who have benefited from the Equitable Education Fund, and students from families earning under 360,000 baht annually. The scheme also emphasizes students in fields critical to Thailand’s development.
As per the announcement, secondary and vocational students can access this Pre-Approve system from May 16 to June 13, 2026, while university applicants may submit their requests between June 1 and July 13, 2026. Completing the necessary process via the official Student Loan Fund website is required before advancing in the DSL system for loan applications.
Additionally, existing borrowers who continue their studies in the same institution may confirm their loan disbursement from May 16 through August 31, 2026, via the DSL system. Officials urged students to prepare documentation ahead of time to prevent application delays.
The aim of the Pre-Approve system is to facilitate easier access to financial aid for students in genuine need and alleviate the uncertainty for families facing rising education costs and economic strain.
The Student Loan Fund highlighted that new borrowers encompass students who are applying for loans for the first time, as well as previous borrowers who have changed their education level or switched institutions. Students are encouraged to adhere to all guidelines and timeframes set forth by the fund.
Thai officials are optimistic that this new system will broaden educational access, enhance social mobility, and cultivate a competent future workforce by supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds who may otherwise be unable to pursue their education.
