Thamma, the new horror-comedy from Maddock Films, continues to thrive at the box office, even as weekday collections show a slight decrease. Released during the Diwali festival, the film has captivated audiences both in India and abroad, bringing its four-day worldwide gross close to the ₹100-crore threshold.
In India, Thamma has earned ₹65.15 crore net (₹78.20 crore gross) over the initial four days. The film commenced with a robust opening of ₹24 crore on Diwali, indicating a strong audience turnout during the fest. Collections did experience a mild decline over the subsequent weekdays, but the drop was limited to 25% or less each day. By Friday, the net earnings ranged at ₹9.55 crore daily, showcasing consistent performance through the week despite a noted post-festival drop.
On the international front, Thamma had a modest start, primarily because Diwali is not widely celebrated in key overseas markets. However, as the weekend progressed, it began to gain traction, amassing approximately $1.6 million within its first four days. Projections indicate that it could exceed $3 million by the week's end, underscoring the growing appeal of Indian horror-comedies abroad.
To date, Thamma’s overall collections after four days total ₹93 crore. This figure has already eclipsed the total earnings of Maddock Films’ previous romantic comedy, Bhool Chuk Maaf, which wrapped up its global run at ₹89 crore. Experts predict that Thamma will achieve the ₹100-crore milestone by Saturday, marking it as a significant entry in the horror-comedy landscape.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma tells the story of a journalist, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, who finds himself caught in a feud involving vampires portrayed by Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. As part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, the film connects with successful franchises like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya, combining horror and humor effectively, complemented by striking visual effects and notable cameo appearances.
Critics have lauded the film for its inventive take on the horror-comedy genre, praising its compelling plot, clever wit, and strong performances from the cast. The infusion of Diwali themes into the storyline significantly boosted its debut day in India, while audiences overseas are reacting favorably to its universal components of suspense and laughter.
The gradual post-festival decline in collections is typical for films released during festivities. Analysts point out that Thamma’s ability to limit declines to less than 25% per day illustrates positive word-of-mouth and audience retention. This aspect is vital for maintaining box office traction beyond its initial buzz and can greatly influence its final gross.
The growth seen overseas during the weekend indicates that the film resonates well with the Indian diaspora and international viewers appreciating Indian horror-comedies. Regions like the UAE, USA, and UK have historically been significant contributors to the global box office for Indian films, and Thamma's performance reflects this trend.
In summary, Thamma’s unique blend of domestic strength, international appeal, engaging story, and star-studded cast has established it as a significant release in 2025. With its current momentum, the film is poised to hit the ₹100-crore mark globally, further entrenching the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe as a leading franchise in modern Indian cinema.
