Maddock’s MHCU grows as Aneet Padda signs on for Shakti Shalini

Post by : Meena Hassan

The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) is widening its roster. After hits including Stree, Bhediya, Munjya and the recent Thamma, Maddock Films has announced its next entry: Shakti Shalini, featuring Saiyaara actor Aneet Padda.

Ayushmann Khurrana, who leads Thamma, used his Instagram stories to publicly welcome Padda into the MHCU ensemble.

“Great to have @aneetpadda join the MHCU — proud to see talent from Punjab come aboard. From one dreamer to another: chase your goals, nothing is impossible. Excited to see you in Shakti Shalini. Onwards and upwards,” Khurrana wrote.

Aneet Padda shared the message with gratitude, noting how meaningful the support was coming from someone she admires.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, Shakti Shalini is expected to follow the MHCU formula of supernatural tension, folk influences and sharp comic beats that have defined the franchise.

At the same time, Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, is continuing to perform well commercially. The film, released on October 21, crossed the ₹90 crore mark in India during its first week.

Trade estimates indicate Thamma earned about ₹3.24 crore net on Monday, lifting its domestic tally to roughly ₹94.54 crore.

The film opened strongly with ₹24 crore on day one and kept steady midweek, collecting ₹18.6 crore on Wednesday, ₹13 crore on Thursday and ₹10 crore on Friday.

Over the weekend it added ₹13.1 crore on Saturday and ₹12.6 crore on Sunday, taking a six-day domestic total to ₹91.3 crore and a global sum near ₹124.5 crore.

Thamma follows Alok (Ayushmann Khurrana), who during a hiking trip meets the mysterious Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna) and later discovers she is a betal, a vampiric figure in local lore.

With robust box-office returns for Thamma and Shakti Shalini now underway, the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe continues to build both creatively and commercially.
