The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas, has emerged as one of the most significant box office letdowns in recent times. Although it boasted a strong opening day with ₹100 crore worldwide, the film quickly lost its momentum, crossing the ₹200 crore milestone globally only after 10 days—a pace that marks the slowest for any film featuring Prabhas, especially post-Baahubali.
Initial enthusiasm for the film was palpable, and many anticipated a successful theatrical run. However, it struggled to sustain audience engagement, failing to capitalize even during the lucrative Sankranti holiday. By its second weekend, domestic collections plummeted significantly, reaping just ₹9 crore net—a staggering drop of over 90% from its debut weekend. As it stands, the film's total domestic earnings are at ₹139.25 crore net (₹167 crore gross).
Internationally, The Raja Saab performed moderately, amassing around $4 million, primarily fueled by a solid opening in the U.S. This raises the worldwide gross to approximately ₹202 crore after a week in cinemas.
In comparison with Prabhas’ earlier box office flops like Adipurush and Saaho, which hit the ₹200 crore mark in merely two days, The Raja Saab’s sluggish pace is particularly noticeable. It took five times longer to achieve this milestone, pointing to a lukewarm audience reception. Given that Adipurush and Saaho ultimately grossed in the range of ₹390-430 crore, The Raja Saab is projected to finish significantly lower.
The film was made with a hefty production budget of roughly ₹400 crore, indicating it has a long way to go before reaching profit and is likely incurring substantial losses.
Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab was positioned as Prabhas’ return to the family film genre after a long stint in action movies. It features a cast of notable names such as Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani, and Zarina Wahab. Despite high anticipation and a star-studded cast, the film faced predominantly negative reviews, further denting its box office performance. Audience interest diminished swiftly, marking it a major commercial failure.
