Renowned Telangana Poet Andesri Passes Away at 64

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Hyderabad — Esteemed Telangana poet and lyricist Andesri, famously known for composing the official state anthem “Jaya Jayahe Telangana”, has sadly passed away at the age of 64 while receiving treatment at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. His death signifies a profound loss for the cultural and literary landscape of the Telangana movement.

As per hospital reports, Andesri’s health took a turn for the worse late Sunday night. After collapsing at his home in Lalaguda, he was swiftly taken to Gandhi Hospital by family members. Unfortunately, despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his condition at around 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

Known as Ande Yellaiah, he hailed from Rebarthi village in the Jangaon district and gained fame without formal education. His enthusiasm for poetry and linguistic expression garnered immense admiration throughout the state. His acclaimed work “Mayamai Pothunnadamma” earned him widespread acclaim, culminating in an honorary doctorate from Kakatiya University for his significant contributions to literature and culture.

A passionate advocate for the Telangana movement, Andesri’s poetry and songs served as potent symbols of the region’s aspirations for statehood. His lyrical piece “Jaya Jayahe Telangana” was officially recognized as the Telangana State Song, embodying the pride, struggle, and spirit of the people.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed heartfelt condolences upon hearing the news, marking it as an irreparable loss for the literary fabric of the state. He reminisced about honoring Andesri earlier this year during Telangana Formation Day and confirmed that the poet’s final rites will be conducted with full State Honors.

Andesri leaves behind his son and three daughters. An outpouring of tributes has emerged from poets, writers, and supporters across Telangana, celebrating him as a voice for the people and an integral part of an important movement.
