Trump orders $1.5M makeover of Lincoln Reflecting Pool bluee

Post by : Bianca Haleem

US President Donald Trump has announced a major renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., saying the site will be coated with a new “American flag blue” surface.

Trump said the existing granite surface is “leaking like a sieve” and would take years to fully replace. He claimed a complete granite replacement project was estimated to cost around $301 million and would take at least three years.

Instead, Trump said he chose a faster and cheaper option. The pool will be cleaned and covered with an industrial-grade coating, costing about $1.5 million, and is expected to be completed within a few weeks.

The president said he was inspired to take action after a visiting friend from Germany described the water as dirty and unpleasant. He also mentioned visiting the site with Secret Service and being disappointed by its condition.

Trump said he initially considered a turquoise color inspired by swimming pools in the Bahamas but later agreed to a contractor’s suggestion of “American flag blue.”

He added that the project is being handled by a pool contractor he knows from previous real estate work.

The renovation is expected to finish before July 4, ahead of the United States’ 250th Independence Day celebrations.

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is one of Washington’s most iconic landmarks, located between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, and is historically known as the site of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
