Trump Calls Shutdown Agreement ‘Excellent’, Aims for Rapid Reopening

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

US President Donald Trump expressed his approval on Monday for what he termed an ‘excellent’ compromise deal to conclude the nation’s longest government shutdown. This agreement follows weeks of political impasse that resulted in thousands of federal workers being furloughed and the suspension of vital public services.

During a press briefing at the Oval Office, Trump stated, ‘We’ll be opening our country very swiftly.’ He confirmed his intention to ‘abide by the deal’ and underscored that the agreement includes the reinstatement of federal workers impacted by the shutdown.

The shutdown, which persisted for several weeks in 2025, arose from disputes between Republican and Democratic legislators concerning budget allocations and immigration policies. The deadlock led to considerable disruptions, such as delays in airport security, closures of national parks, and increasing financial strain on federal employees.

This new agreement represents a pivotal move toward re-establishing government operations and stabilizing the economy. A number of Democratic senators have reportedly crossed party lines to endorse the proposal, facilitating bipartisan agreement and prompting rapid action.

Political experts suggest that Trump’s endorsement of this compromise is an attempt to demonstrate leadership and restore normalcy after a prolonged period of political unrest. Economists anticipate that public services and spending will bounce back once the deal is fully implemented.

As federal employees get ready to resume their roles, the administration plans to disclose additional details regarding the implementation timetable and forthcoming budget discussions.
