Trump Withdraws Support for Greene as Epstein Files Debate Intensifies

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

President Donald Trump has surprisingly distanced himself from Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, highlighting a significant political split just days ahead of a pivotal congressional vote regarding the release of the remaining Jeffrey Epstein files.

In a late-night post on Truth Social, Trump labeled Greene a “lunatic” and asserted that she has become “far left,” subsequently revoking his endorsement. This shocking announcement reverberated throughout the Republican party, considering Greene’s longstanding loyalty to Trump.

Trump stated, “I am officially withdrawing my support for ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia,” criticizing her for continuously voicing dissatisfaction despite his administration's achievements.

Greene Responds, Accuses Trump of Silencing Republicans

Greene reacted promptly, posting screenshots of her purported communication with Trump regarding the Epstein situation, claiming this was the catalyst for his ire. In an expansive post on X, she accused the president of prioritizing efforts to suppress the Epstein documents over solving pressing issues faced by Americans.

“It’s shocking how fervently he’s trying to prevent the Epstein files from being made public,” Greene remarked, alleging Trump is targeting her to intimidate other Republicans before next week’s critical vote.

She emphasized that many families are struggling financially and called for Trump to exhibit similar vigor in addressing domestic challenges.

Vote on Epstein Files Set for Next Week

This internal party dispute emerges at a crucial moment. House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed a House vote is scheduled for next week to decide whether to mandate the Justice Department to unveil all remaining Epstein files.

This effort aligns with the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Greene along with three additional Republicans endorsed. This initiative circumvents party leadership, ensuring a compulsory vote with profound political implications.

If the measure passes, it would demand the release of:

  • Epstein’s travel itineraries and flight logs

  • Names mentioned in investigative papers

  • Documents related to Ghislaine Maxwell

  • Further materials associated with the broader Epstein network

Recent Emails Raise Concerns Over Trump-Epstein Links

The tensions heightened earlier this week when Democrats released emails indicating a closer connection between Trump and Epstein. One email suggested that Trump had “spent considerable time” at Epstein’s residence with one of the victims, a claim the White House swiftly refuted as inconsequential.

Trump has consistently denied any implication of an “Epstein client list” involving him, labeling it a political fabrication.

Greene Labels Trump’s Move as a ‘Major Miscalculation’

In a Friday discussion, Greene remarked that Trump’s attempt to sever ties was a significant strategic blunder. She asserted that she trusts he has nothing to conceal but contended that resisting transparency only breeds distrust.

Moreover, she accused Trump of politically abandoning her after she dissented against elements of his administration's approach towards the recent government shutdown and healthcare subsidy cuts.

Trump: Greene is “Unpopular” in Georgia

In contrast, Trump claims this dispute has no connection to Epstein. Instead, he cited Greene's resentment stemming from his discouragement of her Senate or gubernatorial ambitions due to her unappealing poll numbers.

He added that Georgia Republicans are “frustrated by her behavior” and he pledged full support for any credible candidate that challenges her in the forthcoming midterms.
